The Blair Factor
by Mike Mickey
As I often discuss here, Bible prophecy tells us that a prince (or leader) of
Roman descent who will, at the very least eventually, hold the reins of power
over a revived Roman empire in the last days is going to confirm (or make
strong) a seven-year covenant of peace in the Middle East between Israel and
her enemies.
Thus, whenever the issue of someone gaining tremendous power where most
biblical scholars believe the revived Roman empire foretold by the prophet
Daniel is taking form today, namely within the European Union, I'm all ears.
That brings me to the topic of today's commentary: The Blair Factor.
Newly-elected French president Nicolas Sarkozy, as seen in a Canadian
Press article, has proposed that
outgoing British Prime Minister Tony Blair become the European Union's first
full-time president - an office those closest to Blair says he doesn't want
after he steps down from his current position of leadership on June 27.
The following is what we learn of an official EU presidency from the Canadian
Press article:
The EU is considering
establishing a permanent presidency to replace the current system, in which
the post rotates among the 27 member states.
The president would have few formal powers, but would give the EU strategic
leadership and represent it on the world stage.
Could a permanent EU
presidency, hypothetically, be a platform from which the prophesied Antichrist
could confirm the covenant Daniel's prophecy foretells? Quite possibly. As
such I'm interested in seeing what takes place in this regard, whether Tony
Blair accepts the position or not.
And then there's another possibility for Mr. Blair - a very interesting
position he could take of prophetic interest, especially when we take into
consideration his stature in the international community.
The BBC
is reporting that Tony Blair has spoken to President Bush and US Secretary of
State Condoleezza Rice about becoming a Middle East envoy. The report states
that Blair, should he accept such a role, would likely do so for the
international Quartet of the US, European Union, UN and Russia specifically.
This is of key interest as we are told the prophesied Antichrist will confirm
a covenant "with many" in Daniel 9:27. The
Quartet certainly meets the criteria to be the "many" of Daniel's
prophecy so seeing someone with Tony Blair's level of recognition globally
cast in the role of Middle East envoy could, at the very least, make him a key
player in the prophetic future, at least if we're close to the time of the
Rapture of the Church and the advent of the Antichrist.
Lastly, before anyone draws any improper conclusions, let me state what I
always do in these situations. I am not, in any fashion, suggesting that Tony
Blair may be the prophesied Antichrist in the making. What I am observing and
pointing out is it seems that no one wants Tony Blair to exit from public view
when he leaves his office as British Prime Minister. Not only that, it seems
that many of the world's leaders want to see him remain in the international
spotlight, potentially in a role that would see him become the 'George
Washington' of the revived Roman empire!
Former Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom is quoted as saying the
following of Blair, as seen in a Jerusalem
Post article: "Only
someone with his prestige and experience can revive hope for peace in the
Middle East."
No matter how you slice
it, these are issues worthy of keeping a watchful eye on in these end times.
Should Tony Blair assume the responsibilities of either of these roles, he
will be a significant person of interest to those of us watching for the
return of Jesus Christ our Lord as he, in my opinion, is already the most
globally recognizable man holding a major leadership role in the European
Union today. Not only that, his star quality may be on the rise instead of in
decline.
The end times drama continues...
