Embracing Darkness

by Mike Mickey

Revelation 13:4: And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?

In the Bible we're told that, during the Tribulation Period to come, Satan, the dragon who will give his power unto the beast (the prophesied Antichrist), is going to become the object of worship among many.

Bearing that in mind, I want to today discuss a
Fox News review of a video game that incorporates demonic activity into a first person shooter game appropriately entitled "The Darkness."

According to the review, the game's character is a mobster named Jackie Estacado who "finds himself on the bad side of a deal gone wrong with his employer, who just happens to be the Don of the New York mafia." Once that occurs, the game's hero begins killing "pretty much everything in his path — mobsters, police officers and random strangers — in a blood-soaked zeal to exact revenge on his former employers."

Here's where the storyline gets interesting to both the reviewer and me. As the game's character kills and kills again, he becomes possessed and begins to develop demonic powers which give him "snarling tentacle-like serpents that sprout from his shoulders with the tap of a button", as well as the ability to withstand gunshot wounds. He even gains the ability to "summon little demonic buddies" to assist him in his mission. It's this dynamic, according to the reviewer, that makes the game so much fun.

I remember how the press had a field day when the Left Behind video game came out, pointing out that the game's "Tribulation Force" of Christians was involved in killing their enemies in the game. Summoning little demonic buddies, killing everything in sight (even law enforcement officers), and having "grisly, snarling tentacle-like serpents" that sprout from your shoulders at your disposal? In contrast, that's not of concern. It's just good gaming! It's also, make no mistake about it, an unwitting endorsement of demonology if not outright Satanism.

The Bible tells us that Satan is going to be worshipped by many in the Tribulation Period to come and his right hand man, the Antichrist, is going to be as well, by all that dwell upon the earth "whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world." (Revelation 13:8)

While this commentary is about one person's review of a video game, it's also a testimonial to how subtly (and even not so subtly) mankind today is being prepared by the powers of darkness to embrace the demonic wickedness that Bible prophecy tells us is on its way to becoming a reality in this sin-riddled world we're living in.

People harnessing demonic powers to kill through a video game. That's today's commentary, as well as another reminder that Jesus Christ is coming soon.

KEEP LOOKING UP!
