Are New Testament Believers Bound By Old Testament Law?

Pastor Riley I'm not sure if I don't understand what you are saying, but let me take a shot at it.

Do you believe that the teaching found in the Torah the first 5 Books of the Bible such as the 10 commandments and the other 613 were for salvation?? If that's what you think, you are mistaken, they were never given for "justification", or "salvation". They were given as a teaching for how to live a moral life in the eyes of God.

I had written you a long letter to be posted on 5 Doves but John refused to post it, I guess he's trying to protect you or something. I don't know why John at 5 Doves is so afraid of the truth being told, I do hope that it's not intentional rather than ignorance.

In any case I've taken the liberty to send it directly to you as well as a list of the scriptures you had mentioned in your letter.

peace and blessing

Rob

Dear Rob,

In my email I meant what I said, and I said what I meant. I would suggest you go back and read it again. Read what I said, not what you or others would like to make out what I said. I don't mind being quoted at all, but I sure object to being misquoted.

Sir, I am a saved by grace, blood washed, born-again, Holy Spirit filled believer, whether you or anyone else believes it or not. I know when I was saved, where I was saved, how I was saved, why I was saved, and WHO it was that saved me. All my Christian life I have lived by the moral teachings laid down in God's Word, Old Testament and New Testament. The Lord who saved me knows this, and what you and others think about me is totally immaterial. Only the Lord is my Judge.

That doesn't change the fact one iota that New Testament believers are not under, bound by, or obligated to observe Old Testament Law. The Old Covenant Jews were so blind to spiritual truth that they clave to and worshipped the Law instead of the God who gave the Law. Sadly, many today want to do the same thing all over again, and it appears from your email that includes you. But those Jews couldn't keep their Law, never did keep their Law, and such is plainly stated repeatedly in both the Old Testament and the New Testament. Sir, I don't pick and choose what I want to believe. I accept it all, and seek to obey the Lord in "rightly dividing the Word of truth," 2 Timothy 2:15. There is a difference between Law and Grace whether you want to believe it or not!

I say without reservation unless you have made a diligent study of the doctrines of LAW and GRACE in the New Testament, then you obviously aren't even qualified to speak on the subject. It is the New Covenant [Testament] that New Testament believers live by, and this may come as a great shock to you, but the New Testament contains every spiritual and moral principle and precept that was contained in the Old Testament. The difference is that under the New Covenant the Lord writes His Law in our hearts, and not on tables of stone. Are you so spiritually blind you can't see this??

Instead of God's Law being written down in stone, which the Jews never kept and could not keep, the Holy Spirit of Almighty God writes the Laws of God in the hearts of true New Testament believers. I have never found a single place in all of God's Word where the Holy Spirit of God ever led any true believer to break one of God's Laws. Have you?? Again, I ask you, are you so spiritually blind you can't see this?? I wouldn't swap the indwelling presence of God's Holy Spirit, of whom the Lord explicitly stated, ".....He will guide you into all truth...., John 16:13, for 10,000 laws written in stone.

The New Covenant, given by the Lord Jesus Christ Himself [whom you profess to believe in], clearly states that the Old Covenant Law was a CURSE, that no man is justified by the Law, that the Law is not of faith, and that Christ redeemed us [true believers] from the CURSE of the Law, Galatians 3:10-14.

The New Covenant also teaches that the letter of the Law kills, that it is the ministration of death, the ministration of condemnation, that it is done away, that it is a veil that blinds the mind and the heart, that it is done away in Christ, and that those Jews who persist in reading it [Moses] still have the veil upon their heart right to this present day, 2 Corinthians 3:6-15. Sir, whether you [and others] like it or not, we New Testament believers are still living in the Dispensation of Grace. We are not living in the dispensation of Law. And if you don't know the difference between the two, what in the world are you doing trying to "straighten me out"? These same passages also explicitly state that when [Israel and anyone else] one turns to the Lord, the veil shall be taken away. See also Galatians 3:24. Then why in the blessed name of our Lord, do you and others want to put a veil back on New Testament believers which kept Old Testament Israel under the ministration of death, under a curse, under condemnation, and in blindness? And according to 2 Corinthians 3:14-15 continues to keep unbelievers in blindness to this day??? Why...??

Today thousands of people, some of whom have been saved by grace, want to go back under the LAW which never saved anyone and cannot save anyone. Why?? Because so many preachers just like you are standing in the pulpits of the Laodicean churches today "Desiring to be teachers of the Law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm," 1 Timothy 1:7. LAW sir, any LAW, is not made for a righteous man [a man who has been justified by the precious blood of Christ], but LAW is for the man who is "lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind [Sodomite queers and Lesbians], for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine," 1 Timothy 1:9-10. Tell me sir, are these verses describing YOU?? Well...If they are not, then why do you want to live under the LAW?? Why do you want to place other New Testament believers under the LAW?? Did the Lord Jesus Christ set you free from the Law, or are those Scriptures that teach that He did just lies?? Well...??

Sir, if you claim to be a New Testament believer saved by God's GRACE, then get with God's program for this dispensation. If you can't do that, then take down your sign and quit claiming to be something that you are not. The last time I checked, God's Word labels such as "hypocrisy." Are you a "hypocrite," or are you a true New Testament believer?? Make up your mind. You cannot ride the fence. Either New Testament believers are saved by grace, led by grace, kept by grace, and will be delivered at the rapture by grace, or it is all by "the works of the LAW." Now which is it?? Well...?

"Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in His sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin," Romans 3:20.

Now sir, you tell me.....is this Scripture a lie.....or is it the truth? If it is the truth there is not one work in a person's whole lifetime that they do observing and depending on the LAW that will even earn them a merit badge in Heaven. The New Covenant says, "If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit," Galatians 5:25. We New Testament believers are under the GRACE OF GOD. Being under the GRACE OF GOD we have been indwelt by the Spirit of God and have access to the Spirit enabling us to live a righteous and holy and Godly life for our Lord. Period!

Don't bother sending me anymore of this Old Covenant LAW "crap." I know what the New Testament teaches, and from your email it is obvious that you do too. Since you obviously claim it, then live by it!

I might add that you don't have to talk down to me. I seriously studied every single thing that you wrote in your email to me many, many years ago. You didn't present a single thought or Scripture that I didn't study out years ago. I am not a beginner, a novice, nor a greenhorn. I have been in the Lord's ministry for 54 years, seriously studying God's Word all that time, and He has graciously [that word comes from GRACE] given me enough knowledge of His Word to know how to "rightly divide" it. This doesn't mean that I know it all. God forbid! I am still learning every day about the wonderful GRACE of the Lord Jesus Christ. But I sure know enough of God's Word to know that New Testament believers live under GRACE and not LAW. Praise the Lord!

Since your email makes it obvious that you are a true believer (even if misguided where the LAW is concerned], then we will meet in glory very soon. I am quite sure that the Lord Himself will lovingly and patiently straighten us both out on anything we have missed. God bless you! I'll see you there brother.
