Beware When Men Cry for Peace

You would have to live in a cave or on another planet to not notice the turmoil and chaos in this world. War is breaking out all over or at least the threat of it. It goes beyond the Israeli-Palestinian conflict which now Syria seems to be entering in a more ominous way. We have the conflict in Iraq. Saudi Arabia wants nuclear weapons to protect herself from Iran who likely has a nuclear weapon or two. Libya is pursuing nuclear weapons as well. Al-Qaida has every imaginable weapon of mass destruction. And Pakistan and India have been rattling sabers and threatening each other with nuclear war for years.

The International Atomic Energy Agency says that at least forty nations now have nuclear capability, a figure growing yearly.

The China threat must not be ignored, nor their pals the North Koreans who threaten to nuke America’s West coast. How long do you think it is before China invades Taiwan? And Russia is re-arming.

There are multiple bloody wars across Africa, but one of the deadliest is in Congo and it is called “Africa’s forgotten war.” Many say everyday in Congo is a 9/11.

Radical Islam threatens the existence of society as we know it every day, desiring to take us all back to the 7th Century by the sword, or in our day, via weapons of mass destruction. Some are organized such as Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Hizbollah, Al-Qaida, Abu Sayef, and more. Others are small cells operating independently but with the same Islamic jihad zeal.

Now let’s consider some recent headlines I’ve seen. From the Associated Press I’ve read “Edging Towards Peace!”; “Peace Process Given New Life”; “Peace Plan Imminent.” USA Today had some headlines that caught my eye: “New Treaty Promises Peace”, and “World Leaders Pursue Era of Peace.” My local paper, the Minneapolis Star Tribune had a headline that read “If Only Peace Would Break Out, Not War.”

You get the picture. Jeremiah’s cry of “…peace, peace, when there is no peace.”

This is perhaps the greatest “end-time” sign now playing out, for remember, the Antichrist will come in through peace, and “…by peace He shall destroy many.” (Daniel 8:25) He will create a season of peace, indeed, starting with a peace treaty between Israel and her Arab enemies. (Daniel 9:27) He will be “Mr. Fix-It”—the “man with a plan.” He will offer the world what it longs for, but it will be short-lived, for he will turn into a virtual devil eventually and unleash great horrors on the earth. Temporary peace will give way to unbelievable chaos.

Only the Prince of Peace can and will offer us “…the stability of our times” (Isaiah 33:6) for which the world longs. But until He rules and reigns on earth from Jerusalem, all peace summits will shut Him out.
