The Ministers welcomed His Majesty King Abdullah II's call to host a conference in Amman for Iraqi religious leaders. They will also submit to the summit a draft resolution of the formation of an Arab Council for peace and security.

Khatib commends favorable atmosphere of Foreign Ministers meeting

Khartoum, Foreign Minister Abdel Ilah Al-Khatib on Saturday paid tribute to the favorable atmosphere of the Arab League Foreign Ministers meeting currently held in Khartoum in preparation for the Arab League Summit schedule in Khartoum next Tuesday [Israel's election day!]

'The Foreign Ministers' deliberations are conducted in a positive and serious atmosphere,' Khatib said in a press statement to Jordan media delegation to the Summit Meeting. He stressed the need for a collective and institutionalized Arab action to tackle issues facing the Arab nation at this critical phase. 'No Arab state can solely handle these issues,' Khatib said.

The Ministers' deliberations focused on the necessity to activate the Arab Peace Initiative adopted at Beirut Summit as a means leading to the establishment of the Palistinian state, Khatib said. They also stressed the necessity to continue providing support to the Palestinian Authority in a way that meets the Palestinian people's demands, he added.
