UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has engineered a delay in full court hearings by insisting on tight security measures being put in place. But Syrian president Bashar Assad will have to accept the failure of his best efforts to stymie the tribunal or persuade the Barack Obama administration to help remove this cloud hovering over his regime.

• Gaza rocket damages Israeli homes
  Attacks continue on southern Israel; tragedy narrowly averted as two homes sustain damage

"Peace" Plan -

• Olmert claims he was closer to peace than ever
  Desperate for positive legacy, Olmert suggests that given a little more time, he would have brought peace to region

• Once Again, Prayers in Ancient Jericho Synagogue
  The visit reached a climax with the holding of the first prayer service in nearly a decade.  Rabbi Rabinovitch led the afternoon Mincha prayers, and noted afterwards that it was “truly an emotional moment to visit and pray at the site where our forefathers prayed so many years ago.”
