  "Israel must take its fate in its own hands. There is no other option but to launch a ground offensive in the northern Gaza Strip to reoccupy it," said a leaflet distributed by the Yesha Council in synagogues across the country ahead of the weekend.

• U.S. forces raid al-Sadr's stronghold
  A day after radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr resurfaced to end nearly four months in hiding and demand U.S. troops leave Iraq, American forces raided his Sadr City stronghold and killed five suspected militia fighters in air strikes Saturday. U.S. and Iraqi forces called in the air strikes after a raid in which they captured a "suspected terrorist cell leader," the U.S. military said in statement.

• Syrian overtures stir interest in J'lem <- FEATURE!!!
  According to this official, it would be worthwhile for Israel to test the waters and see to what degree a peace agreement with Syria would break up the Iranian-Syrian alliance, end Syrian support for Hizbullah, and bring it into the "moderate" Arab camp.

• Sarkozy agrees to a temporary truce on Turkey
  Nicholas Sarkozy has agreed to a temporary cease fire in his bid to halt Turkey's accession process, European Union sources in Brussels told The New Anatolian. The European Commission officials have reportedly told Sarkozy not to create more trouble for Turkey at this stage and lay off the issue. Addressing a packed Brussels press room on Wednesday a week after being sworn into office, Sarkozy stated "I believe that Turkey does not have a place in the European Union."

• Global Agenda: Kuwait can't wait
  Last Friday, Kuwait announced that it was abandoning the "peg" linking the value of its currency, the dinar, to the US dollar, replacing it with a peg to a basket of currencies. Kuwait was the first country in the Middle East to make such a move, but it is unlikely to be the last.

Weather officials have said the waves were a result of the accumulation of winds in one spot and are not associated with any annual weather patterns.

Almost all records were for the lowest maximum and minimum daily temperatures in towns across the country.

Apofiz (spelled Apophis in the West) will pass the Earth at a distance of 30,000 to 40,000 km. Whatever happens, the Earth will suffer from the effects of the close encounter with this asteroid.
