Israeli Report: Population up 850% since '48

A pre-Independence Day population report shows that today's Israeli population is eight and a half times larger than it was at the State's inception.
The present population of Israel is 6,900,000, of which 76 percent, or 5,260,000, are Jews, Israel Radio reported.
Arabs constitute 20% of the current population.
Since last year's Independence Day, 149,000 babies have been born in the Israel, and 26,000 people have made aliyah.
