Happy Labor Day!
Isn’t it interesting that we celebrate Labor Day by taking the day off? I hope everyone is having a stress-free holiday, and for the women who are interested in escaping stress and learning how to have healthier, happier lives, click here to check out our new DVD, “Happier Women: 25 Ways to Reduce Stress”.
From fast cars to fast food, having things be faster and better is a motivating force throughout our culture which has had its imprint in medicine as well. Check out this week’s story on the faster, stronger cancer-killing radiation treatment for prostate cancer which has cut typical radiation time from 20 minutes to just a minute-and-a half with more accuracy, and our In-Depth Doctor’s Interview with Louisiana State’s Alan Ripps, D.M.D. on the new high-tech system that gives you a new, permanent crown in just one visit to the dentist. With 200,000 people getting hip replacements each year, don’t miss our report from Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix about the hip replacement table which is getting people back on their feet faster, with less damage to tissue, less pain and fewer complications.
For the 25-percent of the population that has a collapse in the arch of the foot known as “flatfoot,” make sure you see our report on a new procedure which relieves pain as it gives you a lift, and for the ten-percent of Americans who are deathly afraid of needles, Georgia Tech and Emory University are developing needles so small they’re barely visible to the human eye. Preliminary trials show these ‘microneedles’ can deliver drugs just as well as traditional needles, and researchers hope a microneedle patch for flu vaccinations and other drugs will be a reality in about five years. Anyone with children will want to know about the debate on the pros and cons of cholesterol drugs for kids. Read what the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends and why some doctors don’t agree with it.

Finally, after you’ve read the articles that interest you, take another couple of minutes and test your global footprint. At 6.4 hectares, mine isn’t as bad as the average American, but it’s also not as good as some of my friends who got all the way down to 3.2 hectares!
And there's more where that came from...
