M&M Cookies

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup packed brown sugar

2/3 cup shortening

2/3 cup oleo, softened

2 t. vanilla

2 eggs

2¾ cups all-purpose flour

1 t. baking soda

1 t. salt

2 cups Plain M&M’s

1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Heat oven to 350º.  Mix sugars, shortening, oleo, vanilla and eggs in large bowl; stir in flour, baking soda and salt.  Stir in M&M’s and nuts.  Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls about 2” apart onto ungreased cookie sheet.  Press 3 or 4 additional M&M’s in each cookie.  Bake until light brown (9-11 minutes).  Cool slightly and remove from cookie sheet.  Makes 3 dozen.
