Pre-Trib Rapture Taught In Early Church

Most mid-Trib and post-Trib proponents want to tell us that the teaching of a pre-Trib Rapture of the Bride of Christ was not even taught until Margaret MacDonald raised the issue in the 1830.  I say it began in the early church.  In fact, Ephraim the Syrian said, in 373 AD, "For all the saints and the Elect of God are gathered, prior to the tribulation that is to come, and are taken to the Lord lest they see the confusion that is to overwhelm the world because of our sins." The articles on this page, written by various authors, dispute the theory that this was a recent teaching.

Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction...
