Strange Heavenly Signs, 2006
"There will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth dismay among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves, men fainting from fear and the expectation of the things which are coming upon the world; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Luke 21:25-26
Astronomers
look for killer asteroids on a collison course with Earth
Experts say there are about 1,100 comets and asteroids in the inner
solar system that are at least a half-mile across, and that any one
of them could unleash a global cataclysm capable of killing millions
in a single blinding flash.

Giant comet may
collide with Earth late October
According to the
Russian astronomer Nikolai Fedorovsky, a giant comet flying at top
speed is bound for Earth. Should the comet stay on the collision
course, it may hit the planet in late October. The impact will cause
devastating tsunamis, earthquakes and avalanches, says Fedorovsky.
He saw the killer comet in a telescope two weeks ago. He managed to
calculate the comet’s trajectory.

An asteroid possibly as large as a half-mile

Meteor Mystery, Solved?
"For about 45 minutes the spacecraft experienced a shower of
meteoroids more intense than any Leonid meteor storm we've ever seen
on Earth," according to Bill Cooke, the head of NASA's

away bits of insulation and temporarily changed the craft's
orientation in space. "It was a complete surprise."

Meteoroid Hits the Moon
"On May 2, 2006, a meteoroid hit the Moon's Sea of Clouds (Mare
Nubium) with 17 billion joules of kinetic energy—that's about the
same as 4 tons of TNT," says Bill Cooke, the head of NASA's
Meteoroid Environment Office in Huntsville, AL. "The impact
created a bright fireball which we video-recorded using a 10-inch
telescope."

Apophis has already been identified as a possible threat to Earth in

And
There Shall be Signs, part 1
(by Chris McDonald of Spirit Journals):
The
sun, moon and stars were created for more than to simply give light
to mankind. The miraculous redemptive plan of God was placed
in the heavens for all to see before there was even a Bible. The
stars and signs that HE Placed in the heavens so long ago are
preaching a message today - JESUS IS COMING! They are telling us to
get ready for a time of trouble unknown to man up to this point in
history and one that will never be anything like it in the future.
The Lord Jesus said that in the last days the powers of the heavens
would be shaken and there would be signs in the sun, moon and the
stars alerting a world lost without God the times of the Lord's
coming are near. Neighbor, it’s getting late and we are seeing
those signs in the heavens at this present time. The total solar
eclipse over Egypt on March 29, 2006 coincided with the days of the
ninth plague during Israel's exodus from Pharaoh! One day prior to
this event on March 28, 2006, Israel held national elections
electing a government willing to concede land for peace. On March
29th, Hamas took over full power of the Palestinian Authority that
resides next door to Jerusalem. These signs are just another sound
of a distant thunder that something major is on the prophetic
horizon. We need to be sure that our calling and election is
anchored IN CHRIST and Him Crucified. He is the only anchor for our
faith in these last days!

And
There Shall be Signs, part 2: The Witness of the Stars
(by Chris McDonald of Spirit Journals):
As
we continue part two of our look at the cosmic signs heralding the
end times, I want to address the Biblical foundation of studying the
stars to give us greater insights to the gospel of redemption found
in Jesus Christ and Him Crucified. There is some disagreement
in some circles that the idea God placed the gospel message of Jesus
in the stars is legitimate and scriptural. Some take severe issue
with the stance that there are prophetic significance in these
cosmic signs even though the Lord Jesus Himself said that
"there shall be signs in the sun, moon and in the stars."

MOON:
Is
the Moon Still Alive?
Today in the
journal Nature, a team of scientists led by Prof. Peter Schultz of Brown
University announced evidence for fresh geologic activity on the Moon.
Although lunar volcanism was supposed to have ceased billions of years ago,
there's at least one place on the Moon where "outgassing" may have
happened within the past 10 million years--and may still be happening today
(Schultz, Staid and Pieters, Nature, 444, 184).

Lunar
Leonid Strikes
Meteoroids are smashing into the Moon a lot more often than anyone expected.
That's the tentative conclusion of Bill Cooke, head of NASA's Meteoroid
Environment Office, after his team observed two Leonids hitting the Moon on
Nov. 17, 2006. "We've now seen 11 and possibly 12 lunar impacts since
we started monitoring the Moon one year ago," says Cooke. "That's
about four times more hits than our computer models predicted."

Colossal

A COLOSSAL, swirling storm with a well-developed eye is churning at Saturn's
south pole, the first time a truly hurricane-like storm has been detected on
a planet other than Earth. NASA images showed the storm on the giant, ringed
planet was about 8000km wide, measuring roughly two thirds the diameter of
Earth, with winds howling clockwise at 550km/h.

Surprises
from the Edge of the Solar System
<- INTERESTING!
"The heliosheath is important to humans," continues Stone.
"It helps protect us from galactic cosmic rays." Galactic cosmic
rays are subatomic particles accelerated to nearly light speed by supernovas
and black holes. Astronauts out in space are exposed to the particles—and
that's not a good thing. Cosmic rays can penetrate flesh and damage DNA.
Fortunately, the heliosheath deflects many cosmic rays before they ever
reach the inner solar system. "Magnetic turbulence in the heliosheath
scatters the particles harmlessly away."
