God shall send them strong delusion
Is a great lie coming for unbelieving mankind?
I can't help but wonder, as I watch the unfolding drama appearing in the news concerning discoveries being made by two U.S. space rovers on Mars, where science is about to lead us.
Since the two rovers landed on Mars, there has been one dramatic revelation after another. First we were told there once had been water on the surface of Mars. Now we're being told there wasn't just water on Mars, but an ancient, briny sea that possibly could've supported life.
I had the opportunity to read an article written by Phil Berardelli of United Press International that contained several thoughts I found absolutely profound in light of the recent discoveries on Mars.
Berardelli wrote:
The British social historian
James Burke is fond of saying any time humanity's view of reality is changed
by new knowledge, reality itself is changed. That is exactly what has happened
with the discovery by the Mars rover Opportunity that the red planet once
harbored liquid, flowing water.
What Berardelli said is quite true. With each discovery being made on Mars, humanity's view of reality is being changed. Already, many people are beginning to wonder if life, long thought to be nothing other than a cosmically rare occurrence at best by the scientific community, may be commonplace throughout the universe.
Could a scientific break-through rattle your faith?
If tomorrow a breaking news story appeared on your television as you ate dinner with your family indicating skeletal remains of a martian sea creature had been found by one of the Mars rovers, would you be tempted to question your faith? Would you begin to question the Creation as documented in the book of Genesis?
If the photo of the face on Mars taken by the Viking Orbiter 1 in 1976 was revealed to be a structure made by intelligent life, would you begin to wonder if the human race was created by a master race of alien beings instead of by God?
What if NASA's Stardust probe, which recently gathered a sample of the dust of a comet, lands in 2006 as planned and subsequent study of the comet's dust proves what many non-believers theorize could be true concerning our existence - that comets contain all the elements necessary to seed life and fly throughout the universe doing so? Would your faith be rattled?
I can't help but ask myself, given mankind's fascination with science and technology, whether it would be easy for the scientific community to convince a large portion of mankind life is a common occurrence wherever water exists in the universe, leaving mankind to ask itself whether humanity was created by a loving God or was instead created as the result of a cosmic collision between the ancient earth and a comet.
Many people are going to buy a bold lie!
The Bible tells us there will be a generation susceptible to believing a great lie during the end times - a lie so great many of them will buy it hook, line and sinker, although this lie will be a total contradiction of the Word of God! Why will they believe a lie instead of the truth? Because they will, in my opinion, view it as an alternative to judgment.
In describing the people who will believe the incredible lie that will come upon mankind during the tribulation period after the Rapture of the Church has taken place, the Bible points out their sin as being the foundation upon which the great lie will be built.
Those who will believe the lie that will be told to mankind will be those who received not the love of the truth that they might be saved (2nd Thessalonians 2:10). These will be the ones who believed not the truth as told in the Bible, but took pleasure in their unrighteousness (2nd Thessalonians 2:12).
Who will be the author or presenter of this great lie? Either the Antichrist himself, the confirmer of a seven-year covenant of peace in the Middle East, or his government. We know that as the Antichrist, referred to as Wicked in the prophetic passage detailing the great lie to come, will have come forward onto the world stage. We know this passage of Scripture refers to the Antichrist as the prophetic Scripture tells us the Lord will consume him with the Spirit of His mouth and destroy him with the brightness of His coming.
Will the Antichrist or his government allege mankind is the product of an alien master race? Will he allege life is universal throughout the galaxies and offer so-called evidence to support that claim? The possibilities are endless.
Although those of you who read this may be shaking your head as to how this could be accomplished, it's important to remember those who will be here at the time of the Antichrist's rise to power and subsequent reign will be present in the world to hear his lie as a result of their lack of willingness to accept the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ! In other words, they'll be those who have already been deceived by Satan! The only difference will be the lie that will be presented to mankind in the prophetic future will be so incredibly crafty it will be capable, if it were possible, to deceive the very elect (Matthew 24:24).
If you're reading this and you have never accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you need to take heed of the words recorded in this commentary and accept Him today. If nothing else, you need to remember what Scripture says concerning a great lie that will be presented as fact to mankind in the future in case the Rapture of the Church comes before you make your decision and you find yourself left behind to endure the horrors of the tribulation period to come!
The Rapture will someday come and millions of believers will vanish without explanation.
2nd Thessalonians 2:7: For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
The body of believers, indwelt by the Holy Spirit, will be taken out of the way at the Rapture. Christ calls Christians the light of the world. When the light of the world is taken out of the way at the Rapture, what will fill its place? Darkness, of course.
2nd Thessalonians 2:8: And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
The Antichrist will arrive on the world stage, appearing with all the craftiness of Satan, flaunting his demonic power.
2nd Thessalonians 2:9: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
Those left behind to see him will be those who rejected the Gospel, those who valued the world and their sin over their God and salvation.
2nd Thessalonians 2:10: And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
Because of this, God is going to send a great delusion to come upon unrepentant mankind that many of them should believe the lie to come.
2nd Thessalonians 2:11: And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
I don't know what the lie prophecy tells us is going to come in the future will be, but it's going to be one whopper of a lie! It may have something to do with alien beings. It could possibly have something to do with our origins. It may even be some sort of scientific evidence that supposedly proves the Gospel of Jesus Christ is a lie. I don't know what to say it will be, but, whatever it will be, you can bet it will be presented in a believable fashion.
There's no reason why you, me or anyone else has to be present to hear the lie Bible prophecy tells us is going to come upon mankind during the tribulation period. Through a relationship with Jesus Christ based on faith in Him as our Savior, none of us have to be in this present world to even hear the lie! The Bible paints a clear picture of a Rapture of believers that will take place before the rise of the Antichrist occurs. That, my friends, is no lie.
